Using the Metamarkets Explore View

Explore View Interface Overview

Note: The video tutorials referenced here do not reflect the latest Metamarkets UI changes and not all of the functionality is available to Ooyala Pulse users.

The explore view provides a time series chart to compare performance across time periods, set alerts, and view percentage changes, as well as a quick overview of all data and the ability to filter or drill down to any dimension or metric in any combination. The interface looks the same for Auctions and Bids view. The dashboard defaults to preset dates, showing you the past week of data.

Part Name Description
1 Create an alert Available only in Explore view. Schedule an alert for yourself or others to be delivered by email and notify you if a metric passes a specific threshold that you define. You can manage (edit or delete) your previously created alerts from your user profile in the top right. For more information, watch the Setting up Alerts video tutorial.
2 Filter Click and select (or search for) any of the dimensions in the list to filter on and customise the report data. When selecting a dimension, you can either:
  • Include sub-items in the report: Check the box next to the sub-items you want to filter on and click "Apply", or
  • Exclude sub-items from the report: Check the box next to the sub-items you want to exclude from the report, check the "Exclude" box, and click "Apply".

For example, to see data related to a specific DSP, select the "DSP Name" dimension and include only the desired DSP. This filters out all other DSPs.

3 Report time frame Set the time period for which you want to see the data:
  • Time frame picker: View data for a specific time frame. The available options are: 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, day, week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 30 days, or set a custom range.
  • Time zone picker: Select the time zone.
  • Comparison picker: Compare data from the currently selected time frame against the matching previous period for easy trending comparisons. For example, compare data for the current week against the previous week.
4 Time series chart Chart displaying data based on the selected report time frame and metrics. You can:
  • Hover over the graph to see metric data for that specific point in time.
  • Click to drag the time series graph left/right to see data for different time periods. The dates in the report time frame update accordingly.
5 Granularity picker Adjust the granularity of the metrics to display the results by hour or day, depending on the selected time frame.
6 Time series chart action buttons
  • Click the reload button to put the time series chart back in the originally selected time frame.
  • Click the back button to move back in time. For example, if your selected time frame is 12 hours, this moves you back to 12 hours previous to that.
  • Click the forward button to move forward in time. For example, if your selected time frame is 12 hours, this moves you forward to the next 12 hours.
  • Click the zoom in button to see a narrower time frame, based on the options available in the time frame picker. For example, if your selected time frame is 12 hours, zooming in changes it to 6 hours, zooming in again changes it to 1 hour.
  • Click the zoom out button to see a wider time frame, based on the options available in the time frame picker. For example, if your selected time frame is 12 hours, zooming out changes it to day, zooming out again changes it to week, and so on.
7 Metrics picker Select the desired metrics to customise the fields in the time series chart. For more information on the available metrics, refer to Metamarkets Dimensions and Metrics.
8 Dimensions The dimensions and list of items within each dimension. Within the dimension header, you can:
  • Show a dimension table, which groups it with the rest of dimension tables.
  • Hide a dimension table, which groups it below in the dimension list.
  • Expand a dimension table to see detailed data. Now, you can:
    • See additional fields, including the absolute change and percent change fields, provided you are in comparison mode, that align to the right of the selected primary metric allowing you to see the biggest movers over the previous time period.
    • Click on the sort by metric to change the pimary metric.
    • Click "Compare" to compare the performance of items in a dimension table. The data is reflected in the time series chart. By default, the first four items are selected for comparison, but you can add up to seven items.
    • Click "Exclude" and select the items you want to exclude. The data is reflected in the time series chart.
    • Click "Search" to quickly find the exact item you would like to investigate within that dimension.
    • Click on the download button in the top navigation bar to download data related to this dimension only. You can download a report consisting of all metrics, or just the selected metrics. For more information, refer to Detailed Reports in Metamarkets Explore.
    • Click on "Go to Facet" to opet this report as a facet table report.
    • Return to all dimensions.

You can click on an item in the dimension table to filter the data just for that item, which updates the data in the metric fields and in the time series chart.

For more information on the available dimensions, refer to Metamarkets Dimensions and Metrics.

9 Sort by metric Choose the primary metric for sorting the data in the dimension tables. This matches the metrics added to the time series chart.

Report Examples

Example: Deal performance over a week

Use the explore auctions view to find out how a single deal is performing by adding the deal dimension to your view. Selecting one deal filters out all other deals. You can see which DSPs, agencies, trading desks, or even advertisers are bidding and how they are performing. This is also a useful view for troubleshooting, for example you can see which buyers are bidding, winning, but not delivering impressions.
  1. Choose a period, for example a week, and compare it to previous week.
  2. Filter by:
    • "DSP Name" and exclude direct campaign.
    • "Deal Names" and include only the desired deal name.
  3. From the metrics picker, add relevant metrics, such as "Auctions", "Bids", "Bid Responses", "Impressions", and "Avg Winning Bid".
  4. Show the dimension tables for the desired dimensions, for example "Adomain (Winning Bid)", "Auction Outcome", "Auction Type", "DSP Name", "Marketplace Name", "Seat Name", and "VAST Error".
  5. Expand the dimension tables to see the metrics data for each of the items in the table, along with the absolute change and percent change fields for the primary metric.

Example: Advertiser bid performance

Use the explore bids view to find out which advertisers are interested in your inventory and win many bids because they might be interested in direct deals. By default, the data in the dimension tables is sorted by bids metric.

  1. Choose a custom period, for example last 5 days.
  2. Filter by:
    • "DSP Name" and exclude direct campaign.
    • "Bid Status" and include “Won”.
  3. From the metrics picker, add relevant metrics, such as "Bids", "Wins", "Impressions", "Avg Bid Price", and "Avg Winning Bid".
  4. Show the dimensions tables for the desired dimensions, for example "Adomain ".
  5. Examine the list of domains that were successfully bidding. Expand the dimension tables to see the metrics data for each of the items in the table. You can then choose a single domain to analyse its metrics in isolation. This fillters the data just for that domain.
