Parts of a Custom Report

Part Name Description
1 Report Title and Creation Date The title and the creation date of the report.
2 Refresh date and button

If you have the refreshable reports functionality enabled and you created a report with a future end date at the time of creation, then you see the date of the last successful run of the report and a refresh button. The refresh button is enabled if:

  • the previous successful run of the report was at least six hours ago,
  • the current date is no more than three days past the end date set in the report, and
  • the report queue is not full yet.

Click the refresh button to run the report again with the latest data. While the report runs again, the text and date change to reflect this status. For example:

In case of an unsuccessful run, you see the following error message in the report view:

Note: The results in the report are always from the last successful run.
3 Export Report

Export the report to a .csv (comma separated values) or .xslx (Microsoft Excel) file. The name of the file is the same as the title of the report in all lower case and spaces are replaced with dashes (-). For example, if the name of the report is Primary metrics by month and city for sports, then the file name is primary-metrics-by-month-and-city-for-sports.<csv or xslx>.

When exporting to .csv, the resulting file always contains all columns.

When exporting to Microsoft Excel format, the file contains the title and definition of the report, and the subtotals and total according to how you set up the report in the view before you export. For example:

Note: When exporting results from a refreshable report, the export always contains results from the last successful run.
4 Report Filters The filters used to set up the report.
5 Select Columns and Options

Select which columns and options you want to see in the Custom Report view.

The list of columns shown depends on the dimensions and metrics selected for the report. For example:

6 Sort Click any of the columns to sort the table according to that column in descending or ascending order.
7 Total Subtotals for the metrics columns are shown based on the column that is sorted in the table, if more than one dimension was defined in the report definition.
Note: totals cannot be shown for rate based metrics, like click-through rate or completion rate, and for the unique impressions metric.
8 Grand Total A total is shown for the metrics at the bottom of the report.

9 Pagination Information In case a report contains more than 100 rows of data, then the report is split into pages showing 100 rows of data on each page. Total and Grand Total rows are not included in the 100 rows. The pagination information shows which rows your are viewing and which page. You also have the option to view the entire report on one page with the Show all button, but this may increase loading time of the report significantly in case of very large reports.

When viewing a report, the columns and options you select, as well as your column sorting preferences and paging information, are stored in the URL and history. This means you can format the report as you like and then share the URL of that specific report view with anyone else that has access to your account. It also means that the changes you made to the report view are not lost if you, for example, reload the page.

When viewing a report whose status is Ready, but with a warning icon next to it, you see the following notification:

To make sure you get a complete report, you should query for less data. Try the following tips:
  • Split reports based on time period. For example, query for each quarter separately instead of querying for an entire year.
  • Remove one or more campaigns or goals from your selected filters, or create a report per campaign.
  • Narrow down the data by selecting more filters.
  • Remove one or more of the selected dimensions. If you have selected one or more dimensions with a high cardinality, query them separately.
  • For the Time dimension, select a less granular breakdown of data. For example, select month instead of day.
