Chromecast and Ooyala (Deprecated)

Important: This topic contains older information and has been deprecated. For the latest information about Ooyala integration with Chromecast, see Chromecast Integration.

Google’s Chromecast technology allows users to “cast” video content from their iOS or Android powered personal devices to a second screen like a TV screen or display unit that is connected with the Chromecast HDMI dongle. Ooyala’s V3 HTML5 player supports Chromecast by integrating with Google’s Media Player Library and Encrypted Media Extensions to enable playback of Chromecast-supported videos.

Ooyala now provides a Chromecast integration that includes sample sender and receiver applications that you can integrate with easily to go to market with Chromecast streaming capabilities for your content libraries. You can customize the sample applications and/or selectively use the Ooyala sender or receiver applications with your own sender and receiver applications.

The diagram below shows a high-level view of the different components of a Chromecast integration. Each of these components is defined in detail in subsequent parts of this documentation.

  1. Requests App ID
  2. Maps App ID to server URL
  3. Requests Receiver
  4. Sends Receiver web page
  5. Displays Receiver on TV
  6. Connects Receiver to Sender

Upgraded Integration

We have upgraded our existing Chromecast Integration. The upgraded implementation provides support for new features, including support for fully customizable sender and receiver applications, multiple streaming protocols, and other playback features. Documentation related to the old Chromecast Integration has been deprecated.
